【摘要】:1.1Aqualitativeestimateoftheresidualcircumferentialstressinthin-walledtubingmaybecalculatedfromthechangeinoutsidediameterthatoccursuponsplittingalengthofthetubing.Thispracticeassumesalinearstressdistributionthroughthetubewallthicknessandwillnotprovideanestimateoflocalstressdistributionssuchassurfacestresses.(Veryhighlocalresidualstressgradientsarecommonatthesurfaceofmetaltubingduetocolddrawing,peening,grinding,etc.)TheHatfieldandThirkellformula,aslatermodifiedbySachsandEspey,providesasimplemethodforcalculatingtheapproximatecircumferentialstressfromthechangeindiameterofstraight,thin-walled,metaltubing.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
